Year-End Post; Winter Classic TOMORROW!

Been watching the WC practice coverage. What a nice day for some hockey! A bit too much snow at first, but it's better than rain, yes? CANNOT wait for tomorrow!!!!! I am rooting for Boston (even after what they did to Atlanta last night). I've never been one for Eastern teams, but I like them. Could be the way they play... Like the Sharks, maybe it's their colors. Maybe it's Chara. I don't know. Plus, it's their home ice and I always want the home team to win. The records show the home teams have not won a Winter Classic yet. Come on, Bruins!

Swedish Olympic Roster

Tobiaaaaaas!

Feel like reading?

What? No After-Christmas Miracles?

Seems like if one of my teams lose, they all lose. Thrashers lost to Devils 2-3. Coyotes lost to Sharks 2-3. [2 days ago] Oilers lost to Flames 1-4 *heartburst* But hey, the Wild beat the Kings 4-3! I think that was a shootout win.

Funny, I knew Kovy would score the first goal in last night's game. I knew they wouldn't win. It's not that I don't have faith in them, it just seems Brodeur is the best goalie in the universe...
For that reason I am scared for the Blackhawks :\

Predators Have Become the Prey

Before the game started
-Kane had 7 more points than the person on the team with the 2nd highest
-Kane also had 4 goals in 4 games, 3 of them game-winners
-Niemi has faced 143 shots and only allowed 5 goals
-Niemi has won his last 5 starts!
-Blackhawks had a 6 point cushion with the Predators
-Blackhawks had won 151 faceoffs and the Predators had won 143
-Blackhawks had 33 points at home which is more than any other team!
-And finally, B'hawks have a 7-0-2 back-to-back games record

Some pretty sweet stats :) The first goal was scored in under two minutes from the start, and that was by Goc. About five minutes later Kane tied it up. The Preds scored in the second and then the third will be a period to remember for ever. Hamhuis scored to make it 3-1, then the Blackhawks woke up and Madden scored twice. Then Campbell scored on a power play to make it 4-3. Franson scored to tie 4-4 and at 19:17 Kane scored!!! It was a beautiful goal, too. He shot the puck, it rebounded, and thankfully he didn't move an inch because it went right back to his stick, he lofted it high, and it went in over Ellis' shoulder. Brilliant.

Watching these last couple of games, it has come to my attention that the 'Hawks are outshooting the opponents A LOT. Is this a good or a bad thing? Are they getting tons of opportunities but the goalies are making great saves? Or are they just blindly shooting and hoping for a goal? Other teams seem to be more conservative... like that game against San Jose where the SOG was 45-14 and the Sharks won. How does that happen? I'll have to ponder it later, I have more things to talk about.

There were a couple calls I wasn't pleased with, but obviously I saw them differently than everybody else. For one, Sopel got penalized for tripping, I believe, but in reality it appeared the guy ran into his stick on purpose. I don't know... Then there was the one where a Pred got penalized for taking down Madden, though to me it looked more like Madden took himself down.

It's too bad Niemi hasn't played enough games to be listed on any standings sheets, but I think he made it on to a shutout standing right behind Bryzgalov.

If I didn't love Pat and Eddie so much, I would have liked to have listened to the game on the radio last night. I did listen to the intermissions though, so that was something :) Again, P & E talked about food. I remember Saturday Eddie talked about wanting some banana cream/creme (?) pie and yesterday they talked about ice cream and Pat said he doesn't eat ice cream :\
Saw some great signs for them last night! One said HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM DA HAPPY HUMANS! hahaha and another said I ♥ FOLEY! (Apparently it was someone he knew) Pat also said "brainbucket" when talking about a player getting his helmet knocked off. I like that ;p

Final score 5-4

Russian Olympic Roster

Of course I am sad the Wall won't be there, but everybody knew he wouldn't be :( He hasn't played since November 16th, omg. If he was healthy I bet he'd be #1.
Real excited about seeing Kovalchuk and Bryzgalov! :)

Open Letters; Hate Mail Love Mail

Dear DRW fans,
Shut the fuck up. Sorry for the language, but I am tired of hearing you boo Hossa EVERY time he gets the puck. I can vaguely understand you booing him the first time he played against the Wings as a Blackhawk, but to do that throughout the game, and then again last night? That's stupid. Childish. Can't you be happy that he's still playing the game? That you're still able to watch him? I don't hate on former Blackhawks for leaving. In fact, I enjoy the chance they have given me to expand my hockey viewing. If it weren't for certain players, I would have a less than mild interest in teams like the Oilers and the Wild.
The RW players themselves are surprised that you're still holding a grudge; They don't want you booing Marian. I do feel sorry the team isn't so hot this year, but at the same time they've had more than their 15 minutes in the spotlight. Don't blame one player for wanting to leave as the reason your team is sucking- It's a team effort. So, please, leave Hossa alone.

Dear Antti Niemi,
Marry me?
FOUR shutouts? Five if you want to count the NHL Premiere? You are definitely worthy of this team... of this sport! Definitely "favorite player" worthy :D Dude, how do you see through all those screens?! X-ray vision, maybe? I don't think I've ever seen you struggle with players right in your kitchen, and that my friend is IMPRESSIVE.
ilu

Dear Pat,
Happy [one day belated] Birthday!
39, eh? Lookin' good!

Another Shutout Was Unlikely, But a Loss? Who Knew?!

Going in to the game, Chicago was #1 and San Jose was #2 in the Western Conference. SJ has the most goals scored in the WC and is the winningest team when it comes to road games. As for the 'hawks, their home record was 16-3-1, with their last game against the Sharks ending in a big win of 7-2.
Not a whole lot happened in the first period... not that the Blackhawks weren't trying! They had 15 SOG while the Sharks had 4, one of them going in thanks to Heatly early at 3:18.

In the 2nd, with just their 6th SOG, Thorton scored a shorty to make it 0-2. (He's scored 17 consecutive goals in their road games!) Again it was an early goal at 5:10. Before the end of this period, CHI had won 67% (14 of 21) of the faceoffs AND they had 6 powerplays! I couldn't believe they hadn't scored yet, especially since at the end they had 26 SOG and SJ only had 7! WTF Blackhawks?!

The 3rd finally brought some hope when Kane scored at 4:10. At that time SOG was 34-8. But that hope was quickly shattered when Demeres scored at 4:30. Again, WTF BLACKHAWKS?!! That was his second goal of the season, and both have been against the 'hawks D:< Stop that. But wait! Hope was brought back when Hossa scored [his 6th goal of the season] with 1:51 left. But hope isn't enough to win a hockey game, and there were no other goals. Final SOG was 45-14. Now the Sharks are #1 in the WC. I'm so depressed I might eat this king size Hershey bar that I was saving for another day...

Final score 2-3

Is it obvious I like to take notes during radio games?

NHL Standings

Cristobal Huet played in only two of Chicago's three games last week, but he was perfect, shutting out St. Louis on Wednesday and Detroit on Sunday, stopping all 47 shots he faced in the back-to-back 3-0 victories. Huet's performance earned him NHL First Star honors.

Sunday night, he stopped all 20 Detroit shots as the Blackhawks extended their winning streak to four games while moving back into first place in the Central Division and also the top spot in the Western Conference.

Chicago 23-8-3 (4th)
Edmonton 15-16-4 (25th)
Atlanta 18-13-3 (16th)
Phoenix 21-13-2 (11th)

Gotta Get Me Some Waffles!

Tonight Osgood was Notsogood. I've gone from disliking the Red Wings to feeling sorry for their unfortunate luck with illness, injury, and just bad games. But enough about them! The Blackhawks made their 3rd shutout in their last 4 games! It was Huet this time with his third of the season. haha WGN really is the shutout station for this team :) (Thanks for bringing that up, Pat)
It was a tiny bit maddening to see before that Sharp/[RW player] confrontation there were 6 Wings players on the ice and none of the refs caught that. I kind of forgive them because there was a lot of red on the ice, so you know... Do not have anything else to say except it was a good game.
Final score 3-0

I didn't know they were showing the 2009 Winter Classic tonight! I remember I came home from work last winter and had forgotten it was on so I didn't set up a tape or anything; therefore only caught the last few minutes of the game. I was looking forward to watching it this year because they have been showing past WCs, but I never bothered to see when it'd be on :((((( I saw part of the second period, then missed pretty much the rest because I was outside trying to get puppy to potty and then realized the CHI/DET game started at 6 and not 7. During the first intermission I did catch the end of the game and saw Chicago lost 4-6.

One more quote from Eddie about food: "You can't eat your pasta with your mouth guard in, young fella."

They Came From the East

Secretly looked forward to this game all month. I don't know why, honest. Let's get right into it:
Boston scored the first goal, and they have only lost two out of eleven games after scoring first. Needless to say, I was concerned. But Niemi was there, and I have nothing but faith in him. As for the skaters, I was concerned for their safety whenever Chara hit the ice. Man is a giant. Luckily he isn't a physical player, at least he wasn't tonight. I don't know about other nights... It was pretty ballsy of Brouwer to go after him! (... after the SO?) I think once he was "hugging" him he realized he had made a mistake and calmed down. A lot.

When it comes to PKs, Boston is ranked 1st and Chicago is 2nd. There were only 3 PPs I believe, and nobody scored during those times.

This game mimicked yesterday's ATL/DAL game in that they were constantly tied. That's always nerve-wrecking and fun to watch. I didn't think it'd make it to OT, but sure enough it did! Bruins tied 4-4 in the 3rd at 2:43. No scores in over time, so there was a shootout. No Bruins scored. Toews and Kane both scored; Kane the game winner.

Versteeg, Sharp, and Toews all got their 10th goal of the season tonight.

According to Pat, Kessel was in this game. hahaha :)

Final score 5-4

Mark your calendars: Eddie Olczyk Heritage Night -- April 11th

I've thought about it, and part of the reason I was looking forward to this game was because I like Chara and wanted to see Lucic play. Unfortunately the latter has been injured practically all season >:|

"This is fantabulous"

Last night's Thrashers/Stars game was most excellent. Constantly tying up the score, it was anyone's game. I think the Thrashers ended up winning because they bruised so many players with their many-a checks :)
I loved Antropov's goal. There was a line of three players: Enstrom hit it to Peverly, Peverly passed it to Antropov (either accidently or on purpose), and Antropov scored! But I think the best goal was made by Eriksson for the Stars, and he didn't even try. The puck ricocheted off his shield into the net. Thank God he wears one!
Couldn't believe they took Auld out after 3 goals, while Pavelec stayed in for all 5. What was the reason for that? I didn't agree with the announcers that we should "bow down before him," because letting in 5 goals (one immediatly following a FO!) doesn't make up for some good saves. But it seems everyone is saying he did wonderful. Peverly, the rightfully-so 1st star of the game, said Pavelec did an amazing job, maybe his best performance all year. Clearly I know nothing:

What Went Right

- Goaltending. It's not often that goaltenders get praised when they give up five goals, but Dallas easily could have had eight or nine or even more if not for the heroics of Ondrej Pavelec who made numerous jaw-dropping saves to keep his team in the game. When it was all said and done two of the Dallas goals went in off of Zach Bogosian's feet, one came on a screen and one was the result of a last second deflection off of a player's face. Every player in the locker room was singing Pavelec's praises after the game.

- Power Play. The Thrashers went 3-4 on the power play and passed the puck effectively and quickly when up a man, but John Anderson would still like them to shoot more often. Prior to tonight's game the Thrashers were 4-27 on the power play in the month of December. 7-31 certainly looks a lot better. Yes yes yes. Their power plays were awesome. They took their time to map out a path and only failed once!

- Discipline. In a game that was tightly contested the Thrashers picked their spots and did a good job staying out of the penalty box, limiting themselves to just four minors, at least two of which were on plays that may have gone uncalled on other nights.

- Depth. Four different players scored goals and 11 picked up points with Maxim Afinogenov and Rich Peverley both having three-point nights.
(They always have the best recaps)

Also, while watching the 10pm encore (I didn't know they did that!), I began taking note of the players' numbers because I have not memorized them yet. I think I got most of them down now :)

Final score 6-5

Christmas Just Came Early

Niemi is proving himself worthy of this team with Sunday's shutout, and Huet continues to astonish with yesterday's (Stan Mikita Heritage Night) shutout. Yes- Back to back! That hasn't been done for 7 years, I think they said. What's more is Patrick Kane assisted all three goals. And he joked he's seeing better after his own stick stabbed him in the eye Sunday night. It was also good to see Campbell score because he hasn't scored in quite some time. Now if only a select handful of players would start scoring more!
The final minute of the game was craaazy. A Blue sticked Huet's side, Huet pushed him, and when he turned around to start something with Huet, Sopel quickly stepped in and put an end to that! Then damn near everyone got involved, but I think only two Blues players were penalized.
Final score 3-0

NHL.com has a live webcam and a time lapse of the construction of the Winter Classic ice rink at Fenway Park. I love time lapse videos :DD Can't wait 'til it's finished!

Ask a Thrasher? Ok ...

I need to think of a question...

Saw a few people speculating #31 will be back in the AHL when Lehtonen comes back. I don't even think that's possible. I hope Anderson is smart enough to realize Pavs deserves to be on this team. I'm pretty sure he said that himself, and working with him when they were both a part of the Wolves should be enough evidence. Yeah, he's allowed some lousy goals, but he's also won some amazing games. From what I've heard, Kari seems to be made of glass, so maybe he should find a new career path? I don't know how accurate that is, but I will soon find out. The team is doing just fine with Ondrej and Moose. Can't we keep it that way?

Wolves!

The Wolves are 6th in the Western Division, right above the San Antonio Rampage. 13-13-0. I just found out they broadcast games on 1650AM. I will definitely catch their Sunday game! I was also looking at jerseys, which I periodically do (kinda like that fictional woman who walks past a store window and sighs every time she sees the pair of shoes she will never have) and noticed if I ordered a jersey this week, it would not arrive until January. I think Dad and Mom were thinking about going to a game this month, but they haven't talked to me about it much. They said they have free hotdogs on Saturday, but I work every Saturday
:( Without thinking I switched my Friday for somebody's Saturday because they needed Saturday off. Oh well. My point being: I would have liked to had a jersey for the next game we went to. Maybe I'll just buy that cute knit hat with the ear flaps :D
I've been dying to have a Sterling jersey for the last couple of years though...

What do you do to prepare for a game?

Answer: “My game day routine is pretty basic. I just have a good breakfast when I wake up. Then I make sure to get a good skate in during the morning skate. I like to get a good sweat so I know how I am feeling, and the worse I am feeling, the harder I work in a pregame skate. Then I try to have a filling lunch, either pasta or chicken. After lunch, I try to take a pregame nap, if my dog allows it, and then I go out to the rink and play.”

Does it feel different skating with the pink sticks that you use for Breast Cancer Awareness? How does it feel to support the cause?

Answer: “Is it different to hold a pink stick? Absolutely, but it is for a great cause. Anything that we can do to help out charities and help a great cause like this is something we all look forward to doing. Any money that we can raise and anything that we can do, we are all for it. We play a game for a living, so it is nice to have the opportunity to help people that need some support.”

Do you get along with the other mascots?

Answer: “I have a lot of fun with the other mascots. Each season, I invite local mascots to play a broomball game on the ice during an intermission of a Wolves game. Throughout the summer, I also get to catch up with some of the other Chicago mascots at their home stadiums, like Southpaw from the Chicago White Sox, Ozzie from the Kane County Cougars and Sky Guy from the Chicago Sky.”

How often do you have to clean your teeth? How many jerseys do you have?

Answer: “With as much as I eat I usually brush my teeth 2-3 times per day with my oversized tooth brush. Since my teeth are pretty large, it takes longer than you would think to clean them! I have three jerseys – white, alternate white, and burgundy. For games I match whatever the team wears, but away from the arena I wear whatever suits my mood (or whichever one is clean!).”

Why did you want to become a goalie instead of a skater?

Answer: “I started to play hockey when I was about four years old and I wasn’t a very good skater, so they gave me some goalie pads, and from then on I was a goalie. There is a lot of pressure on you as a goalie, and I like the pressure.”

Although you have been in North America for a few years now, is there still something that you really want to do such as visit a landmark or see a certain show?

Answer: “I’d really like to go to Disneyland one day, I’ve heard a lot of great things about it. A few people I knew back when I was playing juniors went there and couldn’t speak more highly about it. I’d also like to visit Las Vegas one day. Nobody has many stories about it though, because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!”

And because I, too, wonder: If more than one of you are in the penalty box together, what do you talk about?

Answer: “Usually, we just complain about the penalty call, because no matter what happened we always claim it wasn’t our fault or the penalty never happened. -Joey Crabb

I see Brent Krahn is now with the Texas Stars. That makes me sad :( It still boggles my mind that it was Pavs in the net last season and not Krahn. I could have sworn it was him! No matter what, I miss him.

You Love It When Your Friends Are There to Help

What a great game tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning! It was a shame Patrick Kane got taken out in the first period though. NOBODY EMBARRASSES KANER ON BOBBLE HEAD NIGHT! Whoever that was ought to be ashamed and beat up in the parking lot. Smaby, it was you! >:( Every time they said Matt Smaby it sounded like Matt's Baby. I laughed a little on the inside every time.
Toews had his helmet knocked off in the 2nd, left, and returned in the third after he nearly hit his jaw on the ice after being taken down without due cause. He shot the puck and a few seconds later Mr. Foulplay decided to hit him. Boooo! I don't even know if he was penalized for that.
THE BEST goal of the night was by Marian Hossa. Sharp shot it high, Hossa gloved it down and wacked that puck into the net before it even hit the ice. I was in awe!
THE BEST save of the night was by Niittymaki. I don't know whose shot it was; I don't think Niittymaki saw it go past him at first, but then he saw it rolling under him and quickly turned around and sticked it off the goal line before it crossed over into the net. Very impressive.
And THE BEST fight of the night was between Eager and [???], not because it was the biggest fight, but because it seemed like their gloves exploded off their hands!
There was one shot that hit the post behind Niemi and Eddie said that sound was probably used as a "phone ringer" by a lot of goalies. hahaha I love that sound. Niemi had his 3rd shutout, 4th if you want to count the Finland game. He is on fire! I really hope he stays with the Blackhawks. Forever.
There was one penalty shot tonight, but Brouwer did not make it.
I'm sorry, but how the hell did Barker end up with the 3rd star of the game?
Final score 4-0

Duluth vs. Duluth?

Reading through the Thrashers' A-Z Guide, I see their practice facility in Duluth is open to the public and players often sign things afterwards. You can also write letters to individual players. Season ticket holders can win a chance to ride a zamboni between periods! AND for $500, they can put together a "very special" wedding proposal package. I had to laugh at the possibilities :D Isn't it weird that I thought about moving to Duluth, Minnesota, and now I'm thinking about moving to Duluth, Georgia? hahaha Seriously. Instead of paying $2000 to be a half-season ticket holder, why not just go to their practices? I'm sure it's just as exciting ;p

Homecoming

I can't be bummed about the Blackhawks losing when I hear Lalime was the last backup goalie in the league to win a game, and this was his first win since March. Plus, Patrick Sharp scored his 100th goal with the Blackhawks, so it wasn't a terrible night.
Final score 1-2

If You're Gonna Say It, Say It Right

Huh, guess I forgot to mention that I found out Jose's last name is pronounced "theo-door." I much preferred "tee-o-door", but according to the HF message boards, he said in an interview his father is English, therefore it is "theo-door". I hope he doesn't let people get away with calling him "ho-zay"...
Also read Kovalchuck is indeed "koval-chook." I like that better than "-chuck" as well, but I guess playing in America he prefers the American-sounding version. *Bleh*
And the next time I hear "pav-lick" I am going to scream. The only people who have gotten it right were the announcers for their game against the Habs in October. I'm glad that was my first game, otherwise I'd be saying it wrong. I may still be saying it wrong, but I think I'm closer than most. (I just heard it & I did not scream; too tired.) I know players sometimes tell announcers and everybody to pronounce their names "the American way" either because it's easier or "it sounds cooler" (I'm looking at you, Linus Omark! [Yes, I edited this 2/11]), but I think they should be pronounced the right way all the time. Your name is your identity, so why let people say it wrong?

Hockey: My Anger Management

Left work tonight in a terrible mood. I won't go in to any details, but I did not see tonight ending the way it did. After a shower I figured I'd finish watching yesterday's ATL/CGY game. Though the Thrashers are losing, it is very calming watching the two teams battle it out. (Even more calming when a Calgary shot is called a no-goal and they keep getting penalties;) If only I had known how theraputic this was years ago! Seriously, I find it hard to think about anything else when watching a game. I think a whole lot, so for something to clear my mind for an hour or so, well, that is something to marvel! My mind is so clear right now that I don't know what else to say.

NHL Standings

Dang, forgot again!
Carolina up to 7 wins and Toronto up to 9. I was sort of glad to hear the Maple Leafs won, even though it was against Atlanta the other day, but only because they have only won on home ice twice. Their fans needed to see them win. I taped that game and haven't started the third period yet, but if Pavelec is still in the net, there is something wrong. 0-5 as of the 2nd period. I would have put Hedberg in after 4 goals.
It's great to see the Coyotes in the top 10! Please stay there :)
Oilers... no comment.

Chicago 18-7-3 (6th)
Edmonton 13-13-4 (21st)
Atlanta 15-9-3 (14th)
Phoenix 18-11-1 (9th)

You, Me, and Dupuis

The best dialogue between Pat and Eddie I have ever heard:

Ed: You talk about Ruslan Fedotenko, Letestu, and Pascal Dupuis, Pat, wonder if Letestu is talking to Fedotenko on the ice and he asks who's up, I wonder if he says, "You, me, and Dupuis", on the bench.
*LTAO*
Pat: That was a movie, wasn't it?
*LTFAO*
Ed: I couldn't resist partner.
Pat: Nooo, it was layin' there for you, take it!
Ed: Like a big watermelon coming at me!

So, quite honestly I thought the Penguins were going to beat the Blackhawks. I don't know... I just feel like they've been blowing some good games lately. It was good to see Niemi in the net though. I think he deserves more ice time. If only the GT position could be divided up equally ;) Hmm, wonder what next year will hold for him...
It was great to see Hossa score the first goal [followed by a round of boo's]. I thought his goal might not count because he knocked the net over, but I guess there was enough time between the incident and the puck going in that it counted. Yippee!
Everyone was hatin' on him. Like, come on, that was two seasons ago. Let bygones be bygones! Pretty much every time he hit the ice a rash of boo's filled the arena. It was sort of funny, let's be honest now.
What was with Malkin shaking Fraser on the ice like an angry lover after the faceoff? I wasn't quite sure what was going on there. I was concerned for Fraser, but at the same time it was just so weird that I had to laugh at it.

Again, Versteeg had the game winner in overtime.
Final score 2-1

Note: I gained a lot of respect for Marc-Andre Fleury when I watched him last season. So, even though I don't care for the Pens very much, I do like to watch Flower dance in the blue.
Also of note: Today I was reminded that Pennsylvania is a state.

Some Sort of Record

I watched FOUR games today. Woke up specially for the Thrash/Islanders game. Got me thinking maybe I should move to Georgia next winter, become a season ticket holder, then move back north when the season is over. You have no idea how much I love watching this team play. I could write a post each day about how much I love the Thrashers. (Maybe I will? hmm...) On and off the ice they seem like, I don't know... the best kind of people. Ok ok, I'll save my lovey dovey stuff for another day ;) They lost 1-4! Gonna see Moose in the crease next game? Oh! That reminds me: Pavs has a 30% rating for "Who would you like to see next on Ask a Thrasher?" poll. Of course I voted for him, and he has the highest percentage, Bogo is at 27 I think :\ I like Bogo [and his 'stache], but I want to see Pavs so bad. I love that Czech.

Then I saw the 2nd and 3rd period of the Oilers/Wings game, and by that time Edmonton had already scored their 4 goals and Detroit their one. I was reading a book, so I didn't watch most of it, but I kinda listened. Still no Khabibulin. The final score was indeed 4-1. 'BOUT TIME, OILS!

Then, during lunch, there was the end of a Sharks/Blues game. It was that or a Pens/Avs game. For some reason I prefer the Sharks. Maybe it's the team colors? I think someone on one of the teams made a pretty awesome goal, but I don't remember :p Maybe it was the tie-goal that was amazing. (It's late; I'm barely thinking) The final score was 3-2, Blues, in a shootout.

Finally there was the Sens/Kings game. I don't know why I don't like the Kings much... Maybe it's because they're an LA team and I have a slight dislike towards that city, though I have never actually been there. I'm kind of iffy about California as a state in general, actually. I don't remember having a buttload of fun when I visited... I was very happy every time the Sens scored a goal to match the Kings. Then I had to go to work, so I dunno what happened, but I see the Kings kicked their asses with a score of 6-3.

Like usual, I taped the Blackhawks game since I had to work. I walked into the kitchen to get some peanut butter for Biff's squeaky wheel at around 11:15, said hello to mom, [I didn't want to start a conversation because Dana was about to call,] and as I'm leaving Mom says, "The Blackhawks didn't do so well..." and I yelled, "Don't tell me!!!" Too late.

Super Long Post

Blackhawks vs. Blue Jackets was Tuesday. Thanks to Vs/Dtv I had the pleasure of listening to the game on the radio. Let me start by saying: I have seen so many CBJ games, I am now a fan by default. I don't know how it happens, but I ALWAYS seem to catch their games! Second, I thought it was, for lack of a better word, sorta funny that CBJ played the St. Louis Blues not too long ago. Both into blue and both have Mason as a goal tender :P Moving on... This was Hossa's first game in the UC as a 'hawks player. I'm sorry I don't know who said this, because I don't know Judd and Troy very well, but one said, "If you don't see him score for 10 games, he might still be the best player on the ice!" Then during the first intermission, the guys were talking to him and Troy said, "Why don't you go get the game winner..." and Hossa said, "Ok, I will." hahahaha He's so awesome. I think I love him.
Burish is scheduled to come back sometime in March and Bolland should be back in about 16 weeks. Hooray!
Ok, so Versteeg scored goal #1, short-handed, and I guess he dragged it NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE! haha *Looking for video* I think that was his second shortie of the season, 6th total for the team, and they are ranked #1 in short-handed goals. No more scoring in the first.
Second period saw Vermette and Pahlsson score; Pahlsson's first of the season, so good for him! Finally Sharp scored with 3ish minutes to go and it was his second PPG of the season, so good for him, too!
In the third, Russell scored 40 seconds into the game. A few minutes later the 'hawks responded and scored, tying it at 3. Keith was given credit, but I think it has since been changed to Toews' goal. Whatever, I'm just glad somebody scored!
Going into the shootout, it was mentioned that Versteeg has had 2 OT wins and as a team, the Blackhawks were 2-4(?) while the Jackets were 2-1. Hossa made the first goal in the shootout as the second shooter. Immediately after, Voracek answered with a goal. Then it just went on and on. There will soon be a movie out called "The Never Ending Shootout." This thing went on for ELEVEN ROUNDS. It was so exciting :DDD Seabrook scored the winning goal and the whole UC went berzerk. What was as equally exciting was Joel Quenneville's 500th win!
John, another radio man, said maybe the Aussie (Chelsea, a woman who sent an email about how she listens to Blackhawks games to WGN) brought us good luck. teehee. Also of note, but little importance, Judd (?) likes Ellen DeGeneres. hahaha Me too, bud.
With their 8th consecutive home-ice win:
Final score 4-3

My computer is being a horrible friend as usual, so here's all the game highlights instead of just Versteeg's goal. By the way, Judd and Troy cracked up when Versteeg missed his chance in the SO. Apparently he had an open net, missed, and grabbed his head in a "Why, God, why?!!" sort of way. It was funny hearing them discuss that with him after the game. I'll have to watch the full shootout when I feel this computer can handle it.

Final thought: I like their new (3rd alt.) jerseys. Maybe I'll get one? Everyday I enter to win a jersey through their text service. I want a Hossa jersey!

I have not seen ANY Minnesota Wild games yet. Their one game against the Blackhawks was not televised. I wanted to watch them because they have Havlat :( But I guess when/if I move to MN I will have plenty of opportunities to watch them! I was glad to hear this morning Ebbett had the game winning goal for the Wild in their game yesterday against the Predators. I miss him dearly and it warmed my heart to see him make such an important goal.

In ATL news, they played the Panthers Monday night. You know what happened? Ballard took out his own goalie!!!!!!!!! He was mad that he couldn't stop a puck from going into the net, so he swung his stick at the post and ended up slashing Vokoun! Apparently not knowing what happened, Ballard then swung his stick again, this time breaking it on the post. Still not knowing he took down Vokoun, he skated away. Ok, how did he not know he hit the goalie? Surely there's a different feel to a goalie's head and a goal post. And Vokoun going down and grabbing his head in the net should have been a big indicator that something was not right. What I "loved" about the whole thing was there seemed to be more Thrashers gathering around Vokoun than his own teammates. Gah, I love the Thrashers so much. They are so caring! Not to mention fun to watch and full of surprises. So so so so so glad I adopted them this season XD

And then there is Alex Ovechkin who I kind of love/hate. Yesterday at work somebody found a newspaper and I took it home because it had an article about Ovie plus the Panther's article. Haven't read either yet, but of course I saw both game highlights. I haven't seen much of the Caps, but I have heard a lot of Ovechkin being a tough component who seems to be reckless at times. His knee on knee collision with Gleason was unecessary; He could have avoided that. It ircked me when the coach said he should not have been suspended; He would have made a different call. Clearly Ovie knew what he was doing, everybody could see that, and I wish the coach would have been truthful. If Alex was not his player, he would have said he did deserve a two-game suspension, I just know it.

The Best Thursday This Week ;)

Besides not having to worry about anymore speeches and accounting quizzes, there's been some good news in the world of hockey! On my way home from school I received a text. I usually have nothing to do with my phone while I'm driving because it's not safe. I hate seeing people on their phones, period, but hate it even more when they're on their phones while driving. TEXTING while driving! Anyway, I looked to see who it was incase Dad wanted me to pick something up for supper or maybe a certain somebody wanted to go to lunch. To my surprise it was from contact:Blackhawks. My mind drew a blank as to what it could be about, and I couldn't resist reading it. I quote:
Hawks sign Patrick Kane & Jonathan Toews to 5-year deals; Duncan Keith inks a 13-year deal.
My first reaction was 13 YEARS?! That's forever! haha Then I was just super stoked. I gave a speech about the Blackhawks today, and when I talked about Kane, I said, "...and I hope to see him stay with this team for many years to come." 5 years is pretty decent ;)

Also, it snowed :D
